Maria Streeter

Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

About

Hello! My name is Maria Angela Streeter, and I am passionate about helping individuals navigate challenges with compassion and understanding. My journey in psychology began 30 years ago. Before returning to the field, I spent years working in the hotel industry across various countries, which deepened my appreciation for diverse cultures and strengthened my ability to connect with people from all walks of life. These experiences shaped my approach to therapy, emphasizing empathy, adaptability, and respect for each person’s unique story.

Eight years ago, I returned to my roots in psychology, pursuing further studies and eventually earning a master’s degree in Mental Health from Wake Forest University. During my training, I completed two transformative internships: one at a recovery center, where I supported individuals on their healing journey, and another at a college counseling center, where I helped students manage academic pressures, life transitions, and mental health challenges.

I take an integrative and personalized approach to therapy, drawing from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Logotherapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, trauma, and inner child work. Above all, I strive to create a safe, supportive space where individuals feel heard, valued, and empowered to navigate life’s complexities with confidence and resilience.

I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey to healing and self-discovery.
